The finish schedule: what goes on your hull, and what it costs

Six kinds of work, each with the paint or product it uses and the price rule it follows. Detailing and bottom painting carry a published per-foot starting price. Everything else is quoted at a fixed price after Paul has looked at the boat, so nothing is sanded before you know the number.

Epoxy, not polyester

Fiberglass & gelcoat repair

Stress cracks, ramp gouges, soft spots and chips are marked during the inspection, ground back and rebuilt with epoxy-based fillers and bonding agents rather than standard polyester. The gelcoat is mixed to the factory colour where it can be, and Paul tells you at the inspection if an exact match is not possible on older, faded hulls.

Awlgrip & Alexseal

Boat painting

Hulls, decks, cabins, rub rails and housings are painted in the protected indoor bays with Awlgrip, Awlcraft or Alexseal. Colour consultation comes first, then non-skid deck coatings, painted or vinyl boot stripes, decals and the boat's name once the clear has cured.

Bottom painting

The antifouling is picked for where the boat lives: in the water all season, seasonally, or on a trailer. Existing coatings and hull condition decide how much prep the bottom needs before the new paint goes on and the boot line is taped and cut.

Goes on: Sea Hawk antifouling, applied by a certified Sea Hawk Bottom Paint Center

Boat detailing

Wet sanding when the gelcoat needs it, in controlled grits from 800 to 4000, then compounding, polishing and oxidation removal. Stainless and aluminum are polished, lockers and bait wells are cleaned out, and the boat gets a machine wax or a marine coating and a final wash and inspection.

Ceramic coatings

The surface is corrected first, because a coating locks in whatever is under it. Glidecoat Pro ceramic goes on in the indoor bay and cures in 8 to 12 hours, leaving a hard, hydrophobic skin that only needs a wash every 2 to 4 weeks. Graphene coatings are available too.

Goes on: Glidecoat Pro 9H ceramic and graphene coatings

Restoration & custom work

Older hulls come back whole: cracked T-tops and hard tops, transoms cut out and rebuilt, engine cowlings refinished, teak and brightwork restored. Bait wells, seats and center consoles can be reworked in the same visit, all under one scope of work.

Goes on: Epoxy structural repair, Awlgrip finish, marine wood finishes

Every hull takes the same road through the bays

Prep

The boat is washed and inspected for cracks, chips and soft spots, then repaired so the paint has sound glass to sit on.

Coats

Primer, then two base coats, then an optional clear coat when the finish calls for the extra depth and protection.

Finish

Boot stripe, painted or vinyl, then decals and the boat's name, and a surface that is easier to clean than the one that came in.

All of it happens in protected indoor repair and paint bays at 138 Bluffton Rd (Hwy 46). Boats that have already been through the schedule are in the gallery.

The yard is also an outboard service center with a factory technician for Yamaha, Suzuki and Mercury, repowers included.
